Big Brother 8 starts this week! Woot! This show is SUCH trash but I have been watching it for 7 seasons now and there is just no giving it up at this point. Honestly, if it was on during any other time of the year I would not give it a second thought. But this is the type of crap that the summer is for…guilty pleasures, hot bods running around the back yard, lots of scheming and trickery. I am SUCH A VOYEUR. The first few seasons were by far the best but I continue to watch because I really do have to say that some of the manipulating and mental scheming is brilliant. It’s like a game of chess or some other complex puzzle where everything hinges on who makes the next move and just how they choose to make it. That, and hot bods. Did I mention the hot bods? Still, three hours a week is a huge investment of my time but at least I have DVR and can sneak in my guilty pleasure all in one chunk each week!
Bring it.

Me: Simpsonized
July 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment
Jumping on the Make-Your-Own Simpson bandwagon. I am not the least bit interested in seeing this movie but oh well.
I am fairly certain that Brian would like to see it. There is a contest going to see which Springfield in the U.S. will win the right to have the movie premiered there. I’ll only go see it if Springfield, MA wins the premiere so we can “represent” for B!

52nd Street Reunion
May 31st, 2007 · No Comments
These are the kids I grew up with. We all lived within a few blocks of each other in Brooklyn. With the exception of Anthony, I have not seen any of them since I was 16. Most of them I know since 8 years old or so. We found each other on Myspace! Of all the bad things people can say about Myspace, look where it got us. Anyway, Michelle did an excellent job organizing a reunion for us a few days before Memorial Day weekend. I had such a great time! Who knew that these people would be just as awesome as adults? Not one of them turned out to be an idiot or a crackhead or some stuck-up fool. Makes me remember my childhood and think about how good I had it. Life is much harder these days. I can’t imagine having kids and trying to raise them in today’s world. Could they have it as good as I did? Would they be safe from the drugs and the guns and diseases out there? I was, thankfully.

LuLu
March 12th, 2007 · No Comments
Lulu has been adopted by Rory, who is one years old. Instead of using buttons for her eyes I used embroidery thread, so that Lulu is kid friendly.
I used a pair of very soft women’s socks so LuLu is smaller than my usual monkey creations. This one is my favorite so far! I hope Lulu enjoys her new home with Rory, Roslyn and Mike.

Oh, Charlie card!
February 1st, 2007 · No Comments
Brian informed me today that instead of wanting these nifty Charlie card mittens, he’s discovered that he can hoist his ass up to the T turnstyle and easily scan himself through the gate. Lovely. Scary security concerns and Big Brother theories aside, Go RFID. My boyfriend does not even have to take the Charlie card out of his wallet in his back pocket!

Winter In Boston
January 29th, 2007 · No Comments
Winter has finally made its way to Boston. With a vengeance. This is the time of the year that brings out the worst in me. The cold makes me whine incessantly. If I can avoid leaving the house when it hits below say, 30 degrees, I will. There’s also something about winter that hastens the loss of my brain cells. I’m prone to watching mindless television shows I wouldn’t normally watch in the summer and I’m likely to pass out on my couch at 8:30pm on any given night, garbed in fine flannel pajamas and tangled in down and fleece comforters.
This winter I have decided to get crafty. I’ve had crafty hobbies in the past but for some reason I bore easily. I move on to the next endeavor without a second look back at all the supplies I purchased and the time I spent nurturing my macramé craft, my silversmithing businees, and so on. I have now decided that I will be making sock monkeys. Yup, sock monkeys. I’ve already purchased one dozen red heel socks. I am determined to become intimately reacquainted with my sewing machine. If I am going to refuse to exit the house in cold weather, I need to do something fun and creative in order not to feel useless during the winter months.
So, I am proud to introduce you to my first sock monkey creation! Uno Stevental. He’s quite the fella. He’s kept me company on the couch, offered to help with the cooking, and has even traveled to work to meet my colleagues.
My sock monkeys will come personalized, and will have their own unique story. I’ll be making them for family and friends, but maybe I’ll sell a few too. Maybe you will “adopt” your very own sock monkey from me!
And now, for Uno Stevental’s personal story
Uno Stevental was a orphan as a child but he has defied all odds by becoming a successful pizza parlor owner in NYC. Recently he’s done some soul searching and has decided to sell his world-famous pizza business in order to try his hand at writing. He’s trying to break into the publishing world as we speak!
